Assessing Effects of Job Characteristic of Elderly Population on Quality of Life: Evidence from KLoSA

This study tried to examine how Job characteristic of the middle aged and the elderly have effects on the quality of life and to understand if job satisfaction plays a role of medium under the influence of such situations. For this, 1,875 wage workers who have the official retirement system of the middle aged and the elderly with more than 45 ages were selected as the analytical subjects in the first basic survey materials of Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing(KLoSA). Exploratory analysis of factors was conducted to classify the factors that the Job characteristic of the middle aged and the elderly have effects on the quality of life and correlation analysis by Pearson was done to understand the relations between the extracted factors and their direction. Also A mediation analysis with three steps were done to analyze if job satisfaction plays a role of medium and covariance structure analysis was done for degradation of the total effect. The analytical results have found that payment of wage from working places and subsidy and benefits have positive effects on the quality of life of the middle aged and the elderly, have direct effects on the quality of life and indirect effects on it through job satisfaction so that job satisfaction plays a partial role of medium. Also retirement have negative effects on it by the partial medium of job satisfaction. On the other hand, the working level of the working places has positive effects on the quality of life through job satisfaction only and job satisfaction plays a perfect role of medium.
